Dr. Schofstall Leaves District With Better Test Scores, Now What?

Can Mitchem and his team continue the positive trend?

Respected public school educator and Superintendent, Dr. Phil Schofstall has officially passed the reins to Jim Mitchem, former principal of Bolingbrook High School.

Good news to report.  Looks as if Dr. Schofstall left the district on a really positive note.  We have learned, the District's Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) is moving in the right direction.  Valley View elementary schools have improved in both reading and math.

Here's the list of the schools:

Elementary Schools w/increases in READING
* Skoff, Hill, Oak View
* Salk, King,  Wood View
* Tibbott,  Pioneer,  McGee
* BJ Ward,  Hermansen

Elementary Schools w/increases in MATH
* Skoff,  Hill,  Oak View
* Tibbott,  BJ Ward,  Hermansen
* McGee,  Pioneer,  Independence
* Salk,  King,  Wood View

Middle Schools w/increases in READING
* HHH
* AVM
* Lukansic

Middle Schools w/increases in MATH
* AVM
* HHH

As a parent, I consider this to be good news for the district, and hope to see the trend continue for years to come.

Yet, as a pseudo government finance advocate, I have one important question for the new administration.

  • How did Bolingbrook and Romeoville High School do?  Remember, Jim Mitchem served as principal of Bolingbrook high school, and will now take the helm as Superintendent.  Did the high school test scores improve in 2010/11?

The clock has officially started, will Mitchem and his team continue the trend set by Dr. Schofstall or will future student performance resemble BHS and RHS overall test scores?

What do you think?
